Crystal M. Aldrich

Crystal Marie DeMoss Aldrich passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Manor House.    She was born July 29, 1918 in Wyoming, IA to Viola Ireland DeMoss and William E. DeMoss.  She was the youngest of 3 sisters and a younger brother. Crystal graduated from Wyoming High School in 1936.  She worked at the Reliance shirt factory in Anamosa, IA after graduating.  Seeing her skate at the local roller rink, Clarence W. Aldrich was immediately smitten and they were married March 22, 1941.  When Clarence enlisted in the Army, Crystal returned to work at Reliance, living with her sister and brother-in-law, Chauncy and Hulda Robinson until Clarence returned wounded from the war in Dec. 1944.  Crystal joined him in Springfield, MO until his recovery in March 1946.
Carol was born in September, 1946 in Anamosa, IA.  Crystal and Clarence moved to Marion, IA. where Keith was born in March 1950.  Clarence and Crystal were avid ballroom dancers at the Amore Ballroom in Cedar Rapids.  When Clarence was offered a chance to build up a milk route in Sigourney, IA they moved there in the summer of 1950 where Crystal served as the bookkeeper for Aldrich Dairy until they retired.
Crystal was active in the Sigourney United Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school when Carol and Keith were young, serving as president and secretary of the United Presbyterian Women and serving on the Session as clerk.
She made friends in Sigourney that have lasted a lifetime.  They loved to play pinochle and traveled to Brandon, Mo to listen to the great music.  Crystal followed the Howard Linder band to many venues when Clarence was rattling the bones.  Watching him perform gave her great joy.  Crystal found pleasure in baking for her family and friends.  Her pies, cakes and cookies will be missed!
Crystal cared for Clarence after he contracted Alzheimer’s disease as long as she could with the help of her good neighbors.  She was on the Hospital Auxiliary Board for many years, doing what she was able, she said, and enjoyed working on every event.
