Fern Dyson


  Fern Dyson, 99, died January 17, 2014 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, Iowa. She was born November 7, 1914 in a log cabin in the timber near Gretter School, to Charles Mason and Ada Marshall Hanchett. She attended Gretter School and graduated from North English High School in 1934.  As a young girl Fern loved to ice skate on the pond, ride her horse, spend time with friends and her Grandma Marshall.   On August 17, 1935 she married Olan Oral Dyson in Galena, Illinois. They lived and farmed in Sigourney and Washington area for many years. Fern enjoyed working in the garden and with her chickens. They retired from farming and moved into Sigourney in 1985. She was a member of the English River Church of The Brethren and the Stony Point Hustlers Club.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oral on May 31, 1993, grandson Jeff Rasplicka, two great-grandsons Lincoln Dyson and Joshua Rasplicka, two brothers Ivan Hanchett and Charles “Bob” Hanchett.
  She is survived by two daughters Mary (Bill) Rasplicka of Sigourney,  Betty Fair of Sigourney, Dean (Carolyn) Dyson of Harper, Don (Norma) Dyson of Albia, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, one brother Keith (Ruth) Hanchett of Owasso, OK, a sister-in-law Doris Hanchett of Sigourney, brother-in-law Glenn (Dorothy) Dyson of Sigourney and many nieces and nephews.

Burial: English River Brethren Cemetery - South English
Visitation: Sunday 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Holm Funeral Home - Sigourney
