Clayton Huff Crill, 89, died February 16, 2013 at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born April 7, 1923 the son of Howard Clayton and Fennella Fear Crill on the family farm west and north of the rural Keokuk County town of Springfield. He and his older sister, Annetta, walked and rode horses to attend the area country school know as Burr Oak (Washington #1) and then on to What Cheer to attend high school graduating in1940. He worked on the family farm and neighboring farms. On October 8, 1944 he was joined in marriage to the "neighbor girl" and the love of his life Christine Jane Root at the Delta Christian Church. To this union three children were born C. John, Sherry and Mary. Clayton served in the United States Army during World War II. serving in the Asian Theater. He raised draft horses and was inducted into the Draft Horse Hall of Fame in 1993 at the Iowa State Fair. He was a member of the Draft Horse Association and the Quarter Association. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather with many friends.
He was preceded in death by her parents, wife Christine on October 5, 2012 and his sister Annetta Charbonneau.
He is survived by his children, son C. John (Marilyn) Crill of Rose Hill, two daughters Sherry (Layton) Claypool of Delta, Mary (Gary) McMuillen of Delta. seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
