Don Yates

Donald Arden Yates, 85, died March 26, 2018 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.  He was born May 27, 1932 to Solon Tobias and Mabel Barnhart Yates in Sigourney.  Don graduated from Sigourney High School in 1950.  After graduating he drove a milk truck and worked on the farm with his dad and brother.  He joined the United States Army and served from 1952 to 1954.  On July 26, 1956 he married Margaret (Peggy) McDonald in Parnell, Iowa.  Don farmed near Sigourney and drove a school bus for the Sigourney Community School for 50 years.  He was an avid fan Iowa Hawkeyes, Sigourney Savages, and the Chicago Cubs.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Dean Yates, and sister Beverly Levine.

He is survived by his wife Peggy of Sigourney, children Jeff (Trina) Yates of Amana, Jill (David) McElligott of New York, New York, Joel (Linda) Yates of Sigourney, five grandchildren Erin McElligott, Bailey McElligott, Addison Yates, Ellie Yates, and Solon Yates.
