Elizabeth Conrad

Elizabeth Conrad 97, died October 1, 2019 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, Iowa. She was born September 6, 1922 to Michael and Cecilia Striegel Hammes near Clear Creek. She attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School at Clear Creek. On January 23, 1945 she married Frederick Albert Meyer at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Clear Creek.  They lived and farmed southeast of Sigourney, Frederick died in 1952 leaving Elizabeth with five children under the age of six.  Elizabeth married Kenneth Conrad and had two more children. Kenneth and Elizabeth later divorced.   Elizabeth was employed at McNurlens Produce, The University of Iowa Hospital and Keoco Sale Barn.  Elizabeth loved spending time with her family and playing cards.  She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed the outdoors especially gardening, blackberrying and hickory nutting.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, and the Stony Point Hustlers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frederick on November 16, 1952, infant son Frederick M. Meyer,  three grandchildren Tasha, Stephanie and Ryan Meyer, five sisters Leola Heisdorffer, Agatha Conrad, Dolores Baker, Eveleen Ulin, Beatrice Clubb, five brothers  Edwin Hammes, Lawrence "Bud" Hammes, Marvin Hammes, Kenneth Hammes and Cletus Hammes.

She is survived by her children Pat Reidel of Sigourney, Ron Meyer of Washington, Dan (Danette) Meyer of Sigourney Fran (Merrell) Vannier of Foristell, Mo, Jean (Dennis) Duncan of Granger, Ed (Denise) Conrad of Sigourney, and Rita (Jerry) Sheetz of Keota, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one sister Donna Paarman of Sigourney.
