Glenda Okones

Glenda Okones, 87, died March 18, 2024 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was born September 25, 1936 to Glenn and Vada Bissel Harlan in Marshalltown, Iowa. She graduated from Santa Monica High school. On September 4, 1954 she married Lee Okones in Southern, CA. They lived in California until 1962 and moved to the Cedar Rapids, area. Glenda was a homemaker while her children were young. Later she was employed at Armstrong’s Department Store in downtown Cedar Rapids. She worked in the fur salon selling fur coats. Glenda and Lee moved to Texas for a short time and moved to Sigourney in 2013. She was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church,  Woman’s Aglow Fellowship and also a lifeguard into her late 70's. Glenda was a member of Aquarells Synchronized Swimming and was in the Hall of Fame in Florida.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lauri Glenn Okones, brother Frank and grandson Michael Okones.

She is survived by her husband Lee of Ottumwa, son Lance (Tracy) Okones of Sigourney, daughter Lyndamyrth Stokes of Azle, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren. sister Linda Hedekin of Los Angles, California, and  brother Gary Harlan of Oregon.
