Howard David Burch, 83, died April 22, 2017. in Johnston, Iowa. He was born August 21, 1933 to John Walter and Mary Ellen Paliser Burch in Fort Madison, Iowa. He attended school in Fort Madison. On June 1, 1953 he married Irma Marilyn Hunold at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, Iowa. Howard served in the United States Army from 1953 - 1955 as a heavy equipment operator in Berlin. After service they made their home in Lockridge for 5 years and moved to Sigourney in 1960. He was employed by W.C. Conner and later started Burch Excavating in 1964. Howard sold his business in 1986. He retired and they moved to Windsor Heights in 2009. Howard loved boating, hunting, playing cards especially the Sunday morning poker parties with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines, Knights of Columbus Windthorst Council 1457 Harper, Iowa, former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He survived by his wife Irma, children Vickie (Gary) Burch-Kempf of Keswick, Deb (Leroy) Striegel of Carlisle, Nick (Terri) Burch of New Sharon, Donna Burch (Mike Lynch) of Redfield, Angie (Ed) Hakes of Clarinda, Carolyn (Randy) Burch Kirchoff of West Des Moines, 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, three brothers James Burch of Fort Madison, Joe Burch of Wever, Frank Burch of Palmyra, Missouri, 2 sisters Anita Hunold of Fort Madison and MaryLou Reeder of Seattle, Washington.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday April 26, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sigourney
Visitation: Prayer Service: 4:00 P.M. Tuesday with visitation to follow till 7:00 P.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Burial: St. Mary Cemetery, Sigourney, Iowa
