Joan Gehrig

Joan Gehrig, 90, died August 1, 2016 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, Iowa. She was born February 27, 1926 to Theodore R. Downey and Nondress Allsup in Sigourney. She graduated from Sigourney High School and attended college for two years. Joan moved to Long Beach, California and was employed at Long Beach City College as a secretary and retired in 1985. In 1986 Joan moved back to Sigourney and on October 2, 1986 she married John Gehrig in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney and the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteered at the Keokuk County Health Center and the Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John on February 24, 2012, and son Ted Starkey.

She is survived by her children Tim (Blanche) Starkey of Bonney Lake, WA; Terry Starkey of Sigourney; Toni (Jeff) Bradshaw of Puyallup, WA; and Twyla Proctor and Anthony Vendetti of Puyallup, WA. Step-children Tony (Chris) Gehrig of Sigourney and Susie Sines of Hedrick. 6 grandchildren Scott Starkey, Robbie Starkey, Jared Pettie, Jen Pettie, Cory Proctor, and Jesse Proctor. 5 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service - 10:30 a.m. Friday August 5, 2016 at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Sigourney
Burial - Pleasant Grove Cemetery
Prayer Service - 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Holm Funeral Home
Visitation from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.
