Malcolm Bruns

Malcolm Elmer Bruns, 94, died February 16, 2009 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, Iowa. He was born August 1, 1914 near Sigourney to George and Alvina Beinke Bruns. He attended grade school at Conner #5 and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1933. He married Bernadeen Standfield on November 6, 1935 at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church parsonage in Sigourney. They lived and farmed south of Sigourney. He drove truck for V.A. Schimmelphing. Malcolm worked for Sigourney schools as a janitor and later was a bus driver and head mechanic for 30 years. He was the time keeper at football and basketball games, wrestling meets, and drove the team bus until his last grandchild graduated from high school. In the 1970's Malc and Cloyd Strobel started Sure Catch Catfish Bait. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapped for many years and loved to travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. On September 5, 1982 he married Irene Blaylock at Strobel Brothers south of Sigourney. Malcolm enjoyed family get togethers. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Bernadeen on June 5, 1976, two brothers Wilbur and Harold Bruns, daughter-in-law Elsie May Bruns, two grandchildren Christine Bruns and Doug Decker.
He is survived by his wife Irene, his children Donna (Swede) Decker of Sigourney, Wayne "PeeWee" Bruns of Sigourney, Kay (John) Sanchez of Thorton, Colorado, Keith (Kathleen) Bruns of Harper, David (Janice) Bruns of Cedar Rapids, 15 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney.
Visitation after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Burial: Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney
