Marian Eileen Yates was born in Webster, Iowa on January 6, 1936 to Virgil Leroy and Eleanor Schultz Shifflett. She died May 15, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Marian graduated from Webster Consolidated school in May of 1953. After graduation she was employed at the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation as an office secretary. On February 26, 1955 she was married to Solon Dean Yates in the Sigourney Christian Church.  They started their married life on a farm at Tipton, Iowa in a partnership with Eiltonier Angus Farm. They raised and showed purebred Angus cattle. On January 10, 1956 their son Douglas Allan was born. In 1957 they moved to Riverside and was in a partnership with a cattle breeder and raised hogs, cattle and turkeys. They raised and showed many champions.  Marian was involved in many things at church and singing in the chorus.  She also worked at the Highland Community School as a secretary to the Principal. In 1968 they purchased a farm southeast of Sigourney and remained there until her death. Marian was very active in the county serving on the Expo board as a director and secretary for several years, the Lancaster Christian Church board and sang in the choir. Her life was dedicated to the farm, her husband and her son.
She was diagnosed in 2010 with chronic kidney disease and in 2013 was put on dialysis. Her farming activities came to a screeching halt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean on April 6, 2000.
She is survived by her son Douglas and his wife Lori, three grandchildren Jacob, Lindsay and Isaac (Kimberly) Yates, two great- grandchildren Riese and Jordyn, one sister Colleen (Robert) Wilkerson, one brother Dean (Carol) Shifflett. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family was her pride and joy.

According to Marian’s wishes there will be a private family service.
