Richard Ward Denny, 73, died December 21, 2013 at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born March 27, 1940 in rural Sigourney to Charles Marshall and Wilda Rae Johnson Denny. Richard attended country school and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1957. On January 1, 1961 he married Delores Van Fleet at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Sigourney. He lived and farmed in Keokuk County for 52 years starting at the age of 14. Richard served 3 terms on the Keokuk County Board of Supervisors and served on the Sheriff's posse. Later he drove semis for Gary Junkins and school buses for Sigourney Community Schools. Richard could be found being the back up employee at the Delta Grocery Store. He was a member of the Delta Methodist Church, Delta Ruritans, and served on the Delta Town and Country board. He enjoyed riding his Can-Am Spyder with his motorcycle group. Richard found great joy being Santa Claus for many children in Keokuk County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Delores on June 15, 2005, and son Mark Denny.
He survived by his sons Barry (Trudy) Denny of West Burlington, Iowa, Chuck Denny of La Mesa, California, fiancé Dixie Shipley of Delta, and a sister Beverly Heisdorffer of Delta.
