Robert (Bob) Lee Conner, age 81, of Sigourney, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his sleep while in hospice care on February 10, 2025. Born on January 13, 1944, in Lebanon, Missouri, Robert lived a life filled with music, laughter, and service to others. A gifted musician, Bob's greatest passion was playing the guitar, particularly the blues. His musical talent and dedication earned him a place in the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Those who knew him will remember not only his masterful guitar playing but also his legendary repertoire of colorful jokes that could light up any room.
Bob studied at William Penn University in Oskaloosa and spent most of his professional life as an independent contractor and handyman, helping countless members of his community with his skilled craftsmanship. Together with his beloved wife Jerre, he owned and operated the Stone Pony Pub in Sigourney, where they created a haven for blues music lovers and served memorable meals to their patrons.
Known for his gentle and kind nature, Robert's love of music inspired generations of musicians and music lovers alike. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his artistry, humor, and generosity of spirit.
Bob was preceded in death by his father W.C. Conner and mother Helen Virginia Paris. He is survived by his wife Jerre, his sweet puppy Lita; his siblings, Linda, Mike, Pat and Jim; his four children; five stepchildren; eighteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was not the most vocal man when it came to showing love, but he loved them all dearly.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, fellow musicians and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Bob's passion for music and ability to bring joy to others will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
