Wilma Pauline Snakenberg, 88, died August 8, 2017 at the Washington County Hospital, in Washington, Iowa. She was born June 15, 1929 in What Cheer, Iowa to Ira and Jennie Garrett James. She attended school in Thornburg. On October 22, 1949 she married Paul E. Snakenberg at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in What Cheer and they lived and farmed near the Harper area. They moved to Sigourney in 1995. She later moved to Washington and lived in a residence at the United Presbyterian Home.
Wilma was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney and St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Her passion was quilting, listening to old country music, walking, and watching her birds.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; brothers, Raymond, Gerald, and Everett James; sisters, Eva Lawrence, Olive Reynolds, Gladys Benson, Opal Huffman, Agnes Dutemple, Viola Scherer.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet Goss of Kalona; Joyce (Randy) Van Dyke of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and Shirley (Greg) Smith of Heathsville, Virginia; grandchildren, Austin Adams, Aaron Smith, Robyn Thomas, and Kristina Bonilla Van Dyke; 9 great-grandchildren; and her special friend James Reid of Washington.
